Columbia, Mo. – The 23rd ranked Columbia College softball team was back on the field as they hosted the AMC Tournament. The Cougars are the number one seed in the tournament and took on the eighth seed Missouri Baptist University Spartans to open tournament play. The Cougars beat the Spartans 2-0 as Coach Spratt earned her 900th career win. Columbia is now 31-10 on the season.
With the game underway, neither team could crack open the scoreboard for the first three and a half innings. Finally in the fourth, the Cougars were able to drive in a run on a sac fly to take a 1-0 lead. While the Spartans remained scoreless, the Cougars grabbed one more run in the sixth and secured the final three outs in the top of the seventh to take the game 2-0 to advance in the winner's bracket of their pool.
Lexi Dickerson was on the mound as she allowed just three hits and had four strike outs in the shut out. Offensively, Molly Carter went 1-2 with one run scored, Mackenzie Kasarda was 1-2, and Natalie Dummitt was 1-2 with two RBIs.
Weather pending, the Cougars will return to the field tomorrow to continue AMC Tournament play. Information will be provided as available.
