Cougar Softball Remains in Winner’s Bracket of AMC Tournament

Columbia, Mo. – The 23rd ranked and one seeded Columbia College softball team continued AMC Tournament play this afternoon as they took on the fifth seed Freed-Hardeman University Lions. The Cougars held on to win 4-2 to remain in the winner's bracket. Columbia is now 32-10 on the season.

Neither team could get rolling through the first three and a half innings. In the bottom of the fourth the Cougar bats came alive and were able to bring in three runs to take a 3-0 lead. In the top of the fifth, the Lions answered with one run, but the Cougar defense stood strong to hold the Lions at one going into the bottom of the inning. Columbia kept the bases loaded majority of the bottom half of the inning, but were only able to bring one run in, putting them up 4-1 after five. The Lions were still fighting as they cut the lead to two runs in the top of the sixth, however the Cougars protected the field to secure the win 4-2.

Molly Carter was on the mound as she allowed six hits, two earned runs, and struck out six batters in seven innings of work. Offensively, Libby Marko was 1-4, Molly Carter was 1-2 with one run scored, Mackenzie Kasarda was 1-3 with one run scored and one RBI, Natalie Dummitt was 2-3 with one run scored and one RBI, Allison Keen was 2-3 with two RBI, Avgustina Arbova and Karolina Arbova were each 1-3.
