Columbia, MO. – Tonight the Columbia College women's soccer team competed against the 5
th ranked Benedictine (Kan.) University Ravens in a nonconference matchup. Columbia fell 3-1 in the contest and is now 3-3 on the season.
The game started off with a slow tempo, Benedictine maintaining control over the ball. At the 23rd minute mark, Benedictine's Emily Ambuul netted the first goal of the game. Columbia logged 1 shot on goal and held a strong defense for the remainder of the half.
Columbia came out aggressive to hold possession of the ball and get two shots on goal at the 50th minute mark. At the 59th mark, the Ravens were able to score again when Isabelle Wilhelm got the second goal of the game. Columbia continued to trail, at the 65th minute,
Jewel Morelan gave the Cougars their first goal of the game. Columbia held off Benedictine until the 76
th minute when Nicole Kelly found the back of the net to give the Ravens their third and final goal of the game.
Victoria Heus played 80 minutes in goal for Columbia, recording three saves.
Kate Marshall came in at the 80 minute mark, recording one save.
The women's soccer team is back in action on Saturday, September 21st when they play host to the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots in the first American Midwest Conference matchup of 2019. The game is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. on R. Marvin Owens Field.
