Columbia, Mo. – Today the Columbia College women's soccer team competed against the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots in their first American Midwest Conference matchup of 2019. The Cougars were victorious with a final score of 5-0. Columbia improves to 4-3 on the season and 1-0 in AMC play.
The game started with Columbia pushing the Scots to their end and staying aggressive. At the 17 minute mark,
Kelsey Mirts nets the first goal for Columbia. The Cougars continued to press the Scot goalkeeper, and at the 31 minute mark
Brianna Heath gave Columbia their second goal. Columbia lead 2-0 at the end of the first half.
Columbia came out aggressive to hold possession of the ball in the second half. At the 55 minute mark Heath passed the ball to
Isabella Govero who netted the third Cougar goal of the game. A minute later, at the 56 minute mark,
Mallory Holzer scored the fourth goal of the game, putting the Cougars ahead 4-0.
Molly Klein knocked in the final goal for Columbia in the 75
th minute.
Kate Marshall and
Rileigh Huffman split time in goal to notch the shutout.
The women's soccer team is back in action on Wednesday, September 25th when they travel to Fulton, Missouri in a matchup against the William Wood (Mo.) University Owls in their second American Midwest Conference matchup of 2019. The game is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
