Ottawa, Kan. – The 12
th ranked Cougar volleyball team was back in action when they traveled to Ottawa, Kansas to take on Ottawa University tonight. The Cougars defeated the Braves 3-1 (24-26, 25-18, 25-19, 25-19) and are now 7-2 on the season.
Columbia had a slow start to the match as the Braves were able to hold a strong defense coming up with 11 team blocks compared to the Cougars five team blocks and 33 hitting errors. Despite dropping the first set, Columbia came back strong in the next three sets totaling 56 team kills, 57 digs, and 53 assists which dominated Ottawa's 33 team kills, 35 digs, and 28 assists.
Senior
Kiersten Anderson led the way with 14 kills and 13 digs while Sophomore
Sidney Branson totaled 13 kills and 14 digs. In addition,
Bailee Ulery added 10 kills,
Shelby Meyer finished with 12 digs, and
Luisa Ferreira had 50 assists.
Columbia returns to the court on Friday, September 13 when they travel to Salina, Kansas to compete in the 2019 Kansas Wesleyan University Classic. The Cougars will play against Montana Western at 3 p.m. and Dakota State University at 5 p.m.
