Columbia, Mo. – In front of a full house, with emotions running high and more than just volleyball on their minds, the 12
th ranked Columbia College volleyball team swept conference foe St. Louis College of Pharmacy tonight in Southwell Complex. The Cougars defeated the Eutectics, 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-15) and move to 13-2 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.
In their first match back following the loss of junior libero
Shelby Meyer, the Cougars took time to remember their teammate with a tribute and moment of silence before taking the court.
Columbia played with grit and determination from the opening serve, with a 0.519 attack percentage, 16 kills and three aces in the first set. The Cougars stepped it up even further in the second set as they had a 0.609 attack percentage while holding the visiting Eutectics to a 0.053 attack percentage. Columbia stayed strong in the final set as they added 18 kills and three aces to sweep St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
The Cougars were led by junior
Adianez Rivera and senior
Kiersten Anderson who had 14 kills apiece. In addition, Bailey Ulery finished with 12 kills, Rivera,
Jaqueline Silva, and
Sidney Branson had eight digs each, and
Luisa Ferreira tallied 41 assists.
Columbia returns to the court on Saturday, September 28 when they travel to Bourbonnais, Illinois to compete in the 2019 Olivet Nazarene University Classic. The Cougars will play against Campbellsville University at 10 a.m. and Saint Xavier University at 2 p.m.
