Des Moines, Iowa — Tonight the 20
th ranked Columbia College Men's soccer team was on the road as they took on the Grand View University Vikings in a non-conference matchup. The Cougars defeated the Vikings 2-1 to improve to 3-0 on the season.
The Vikings came out blazing as they scored within the first two minutes of the game making it 1-0 right off the bat. With plenty of time left on the board the Cougars held the Vikings off, while creating a few chances of their own. They were unable to capitalize until late in the half when
Nathan Durdle found the back of the net to knot the game at one each. The game remained tied 1-1 at halftime.
Neither team could create any separation throughout the second half. The battle continued and finally with just around 11 minutes left to play,
Mako Makoanyane tallied what proved to be the winning goal. Columbia's defense prevailed keeping the Vikings out of the net, despite their effort to make a final push late in the game.
Ryan Harrisskitt had two saves in the final minute to lock up the 2-1 Cougar victory.
Harrisskitt recorded 11 saves on the night.
The Cougars remain on the road as they are set to play John Brown University on Saturday, September 7
th at 5p.m. in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
