Elash, Ill. - Both Columbia College Cross Country teams stayed hot in the heat as they competed in the Border War Cross Country Championships on the campus of Principia College on Friday afternoon.
The women's team won the event with a total team score of 20. Mikayla Sehlmeyer was the top finisher for the Cougars for the second straight meet, placing second overall with a 5k time of 20:02.01. Jada O'Donnell followed close behind, finishing fourth and with a time of 20:37.42. Kyla Bertschinger, Daylin Huebotter and Grace Brinkmann all also earned a spot in the top ten, placing sixth, eighth, and ninth respectively. Huebotter set a new personal record with her 21:20.14 finishing time.
The men's team placed second overall with a team score of 40. Alex Dukes placed first overall for the second straight week to open the season, winning the 8k with a time of 26:45.45. Edwin Kipainoi finished third overall, while Jerod Rottinghaus also placed in the top 10, placing ninth overall.Â
