Cougars Earn Split on The Road

Atchison, Kan. – The Columbia College women's volleyball team earned a split this evening, coming up short in their opening match and securing their final match. The Cougars took their second loss of the season against William Penn (Iowa), 3-1. Columbia ended the night with a win versus Benedictine (Kan.), 3-2. The Cougars are 10-2 on the season and 4-0 in AMC play.
COLUMBIA COLLEGE (9-2) VS WILLIAM PENN (14-7)
Set 1: Columbia 25 | William Penn 13
The Cougars started the first set strong going on a 6-0 run starting with a kill by Cecilia Westfall. Columbia led the entire set gaining their largest lead of the match of 12 points.

Set 2: Columbia 14 | William Penn 25
The Statesmen were able to limit the Cougars to 14 points in their second set victory.

Set 3: Columbia 22 | William Penn 25
Columbia went on a 4-0 run to start the set, but the Statesmen slowly began to make their way into the match. Four ties were recorded in the third set including a 23-23 tie up. Three straight points by William Penn gave them a 25-22 advantage.
Set 4: Columbia 19 | William Penn 25
The Cougars stayed right with the Statesmen throughout the set, but a late 5-0 Statesmen run gave William Penn the fourth set and match win.

Set 1: Columbia 22 | Benedictine 25
The Ravens and Cougars went back and forth with 10 ties throughout the set. Columbia came within one down 21-20, but were unable to make the comeback.

Set 2: Columbia 25 | Benedictine 21
The Cougars led for the majority of the set, but not without the Ravens making a run producing seven ties. Columbia hung on to the lead with a four-point advantage.

Set 3: Columbia 25 | Benedictine 20
Columbia produced 15 kills in the set while hitting 36 percent. Five ties and several lead changes later, the Cougars took the third set.
 
Set 4: Columbia 20 | Benedictine 25
Benedictine recorded their highest hitting percentage of the set of 25 percent, while also leading by as many as seven points in the fourth set.
Set 5: Columbia 15 | Benedictine 8
A pair of 4-0 Cougar runs allowed Columbia to come out on top, limiting the Ravens to eight points in the final set.
