Columbia, Mo. – The No. 22-ranked Columbia College women's basketball team extended its season long win streak to three-games with a dominating, 78-36, win over Stephens (Mo.). The Cougars are now 5-2 overall and 3-0 in AMC play.
The first quarter was back and forth, as the two teams combined for five lead changes and three ties. Columbia held the largest lead of the period with 1:22 remaining when a
Geena Stephens basket put the Cougars up 16-11. The Stars ended the quarter on a 4-0 run and trimmed the Cougar lead to 16-15 at the end of the quarter.
The first part of the second period started off the same as the first. Both teams were trading baskets. With the game tied at 17-17, Columbia went on an 18-2 to extend its lead to 16 (35-19). The Cougars pushed its lead out to as many as 18, but led 39-23 at the half.
The Cougars picked up the defense even more in the third period, only allowing two points, including holding the Stars scoreless for the final 8:29 of the period.
In the final period, the Cougars did not let up and pushed their lead over the 40-point plateau with 34-seconds remaining. Columbia would hold on for the 78-36 win.
