Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College women's basketball team saw its five-game win-streak come to an end at the hands of No. 22 Lyon (Ark.) on Tuesday night, 64-58.
Columbia jumped out to an early nine-point lead (13-4), but would not score a basket for the next 12 minutes, as Lyon went on a 23-0 run to lead 27-13 mid-way through the second period.
The Cougars caught fire and trimmed the lead down to nine before the break, thanks to three three-point field goals. Lyon led 33-24 at the half.
Columbia continued their run into the third quarter, as they outscored the Scots 23-9 in the period and led 47-42 going into the final stanza.
In the fourth, the Cougars scored the first basket and extended its lead to seven (49-42), but the Scots went on an 8-0 run to take the lead at 50-49. The two teams continued to trade baskets, with Columbia taking the 56-55 advantage with 3:02 remaining. That would be the last time the Cougars had the lead, as Lyon closed the game on a 9-2 run.
