Cougars Fall Short at Williams Baptist

Walnut Ridge, Ark. – The Columbia College women's basketball team were defeated this evening by Williams Baptist (Ark.), 88-75. The Cougars are 7-4 on the season and 5-2 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC).
 
The Cougars started off steady with a 6-0 run against the Lady Eagles. Williams Baptist made their first points of the game two and a half minutes in, cutting the score to 6-2. Columbia produced a lead as big as 10 and led 22-15 at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Eagles came within three points midway through the second quarter, but the Cougars would take their lead back to nine going into the half, 45-36. This was Columbia's highest scoring quarter of the half with 23 total points.

Williams Baptist made the first bucket of the third quarter and went on a 6-0 run, getting to with four points, 47-43. A pair of free throws by the Lady Eagles tied up the game with 2:46 remaining in the period, 54-54. Columbia held a 59-56 advantage at the end of the third quarter.

The Lady Eagles gained their first lead of the game two minutes into the last quarter, 61-59. Columbia tied it up two more times, but Williams Baptist produced an outstanding fourth quarter scoring 32 points. The Lady Eagles shot 46-percent from the field compared to the Cougars 33-percent in the final period. Williams Baptist took an 88-75 victory.
