Columbia, Mo. – After two canceled games due to weather postponements, the Columbia College women's basketball team was back in action today securing a 72-62 victory over Central Baptist (Ark.). This was the Cougars final game of the regular season as they hold a 12-4 overall record and 10-2 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC).
The Cougars started off with a 6-0 run going two-for-two from the 3-point arc. Soon after, the Mustangs produced five-straight points of their own putting them within one, 11-10. Columbia did not give up their lead for the remainder of the quarter generating a 20-12 advantage into the next quarter.
The Mustangs found themselves within three after a 7-0 run with 7:34 on the clock, 22-19. The Cougars took their largest lead of the game after a pair of free throws by
Geena Stephens, 30-19. Columbia maintained a 35-25 lead going into the locker room.
Central Baptist scored 14 quick points to start the second half, picking up their first lead of the game 39-38. The Mustangs led by as many as five with 2:31 remaining in the third quarter, 44-39. Columbia took charge with an 8-0 run leading 47-44 at the end of the quarter.
The fourth quarter was all Columbia as they produced their highest scoring quarter of the game of 25 points. The Cougars secured a 72-62 win over the Mustangs to end their regular season.
