Fulton, Mo. – Playing in their first game since Jan. 23, the Columbia College women's basketball team earned a double-digit win over rival William Woods on Monday night. The Cougars, playing in their third-straight road game, defeated the Owls 64-50.
Columbia jumped out to the early advantage, scoring the games first 10-points. The Owls first point of the game came on a free throw with 5:27 remaining in the first quarter. Columbia would lead, 12-6, at the end of one.
The Cougars pushed its lead back to double figures (21-9) with a 9-3 run to begin the second stanza. William Woods fought back to within four-points (23-19, but the Cougars drained back-to-back 3-pointers to end the quarter ahead, 29-19.
After the Owls clawed their way back to within eight, 31-23, the Cougars extended their lead to 16 to end the third. Columbia led, 49-33 with 10 minutes left to play.
The fourth quarter started with Columbia going on a 7-3 run, capped off by a field goal by
Mallory Shetley and extending the Cougars lead to the 20-point plateau at 56-36. The Owls climbed back to within 14, but that was as close as they would get as Columbia never trailed in the game and earned the 64-50 victory.
