Softball Sweeps Spartans, Clinches No. 1-Seed in AMC Tournament

St. Louis, Mo. – The Columbia College softball team earned another doubleheader sweep, defeating Missouri Baptist on Monday afternoon.

With the two wins, the Cougars have secured the No. 1-seed in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) postseason tournament and have clinched at least a share of the AMC Regular-Season title.

The Scoring – Game 1
T2 – Avgustina Arbova scored the first run on an RBI single by Skyler Kauble. Carli Buschjost added to the lead with a two-run home run.  (CC 3, MBU 0)
T3 – Mackenzie Kasarda hit a solo home run to lead off the inning. (CC 4, MBU 0)
T4 – Taylor Barnes and Kacy Bergfeld recorded RBI hits in the inning. (CC 6, MBU 0)
B4 – The Spartans got on the board on a sac fly. (CC 6, MBU 1)

The Scoring – Game 2
T1 – Taylor Barnes singled to lead off the game, moved to second on an error, advanced to third on a stolen base and later scored on a sac fly by Allison Keen. (CC 1, MBU 0)
T3 – Barnes reached on a walk, stole second, went to third on a sac bunt by Kacy Bergfeld and scored on an RBI groundout by Mackenzie Kasarda. (CC 2, MBU 0)

A single and error put Taylor Barnes in scoring position in the first inning, where she later scored.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
The Cougars had nine hits, led by Mackenzie Kasarda, who had two hits. Carli Buschjost led the team with two RBIs. Lexi Dickerson went seven innings in the circle, striking out four and allowed one unearned run.

Game 2 Individual Leaders
Alyssa Roll went the distance in the circle with seven strikeouts and allowed just two hits. Kaylie Kaufman and Skyler Kauble led the team with two hits each, while Carli Bushjost added a game-high two RBIs. As a team, the Cougars went 4-for-4 in stolen bases.
