Baseball Wins Twice on Saturday; Sweeps Four Game Series Over Rival Owls

Fulton, Mo. – The Columbia College baseball team won their eighth and ninth-straight games, taking a doubleheader against William Woods on Saturday. The Cougars improve to 19-4 on the season and 10-2 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC). Columbia has won nine-straight conference games.

Game 1 Turning Point
After the Owls took the lead in the bottom of the fifth, the Cougars scored six times in their half of the sixth, with four runs coming in on a Dalton Bealmer grand slam. 

Game 2 Turning Point
William Woods had the tying run on first in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Conner Danell got Alex Owens to fly out to left to end the game. 

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Travis Bassford earned the win in relief, tossing 0.2 innings allowing just one hit and did not give up a run. Luke Miller picked up his second save of the season, going two innings and only surrendering one hit. Dalton Bealmer drove in four runs, while Kenny Piper recorded three hits. Four of the Cougar's nine hits went for extra bases. 

Game 2 Individual Leaders
Pharon Pilgrim earned the win going five innings and allowing just one earned run. Conner Darnell picked up his sixth save, which is the fourth most in the NAIA. Dalton Bealmer went 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs. Kellen Williamson added three hits and two RBIs, while Kenny Piper and Brad Prebay scored twice each. The Cougars 1-3 hitters combined to go 7-for-10 with four RBIs and six runs scored.

The Cougars have a short turnaround and will take on Missouri Valley in Marshall, Mo. on Tuesday, April 6. The first pitch for game one of the doubleheader is set for 4:00 p.m.
