Canton, Missouri - The Columbia College men's basketball team competed against the Wildcats of Culver-Stockton College tonight on Day 1 of the Fairfield Inn Classic. The Cougars led 39-33 at halftime, but were outscored 30-40 in the second half to send the game into overtime tied at 69-69.
In overtime, the Wildcats came out hot and took a 79-73 lead after three minutes of play. After the Cougars took a timeout to stop the momentum, the Wildcats continued to keep the pressure on as they extended their lead to 86-75 with under one minute to play. As time expired, the Cougars were unable to find anything on offense and would fall in overtime, 75-86.
Tony Burks and
Collin Parker contributed for 53 of the Cougars' 75 points as Burks finished with 28 points and eight rebounds, and
Collin Parker added 25 points and 13 rebounds.
The Wildcat defense caused Columbia to give up 20 turnovers, while only turning the ball over seven times on their own.
The Cougars wrap up play tomorrow as they take on Iowa Wesleyan University in Canton, Missouri.
