Women's Basketball Defeats Hannibal-LaGrange on the Road

Hannibal, Mo. – The Columbia College women's basketball team defeated the Hannibal-LaGrange University Trojans on the road on Thursday evening. 
 
With the win, the Cougars have clinched a top-four seed in the upcoming American Midwest Conference (AMC) postseason tournament and will host a quarterfinal game on Feb. 23 at 7:00 PM. 
 
The Cougars are now 19-6 overall and 12-2 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC), while the Trojans fall to 3-21 overall and 1-13 in the AMC. 
 
The Cougars held the largest lead of the first quarter of four points a couple of different times, including 12-8 with 4:07 left. The Trojans continued to battle and led 17-16 at the end of one quarter. 
 
In the second quarter, both teams continued to match each other. The Cougars used a 7-0 run to increase their advantage to eight (37-29). The teams would trade buckets, and Columbia led, 39-31, at the intermission. 
 
Nine was the largest lead in the third quarter, which was achieved by the Cougars multiple times in the frame. HLGU got within four points in the period, but that was as close as they would get as Columbia led 54-46 at the end of three. 
 
After the Cougars increased their lead to double figures (59-48), HLGU started to chip away at the lead. A 12-2 run got the Trojans within one (61-60) with just over a minute left. The Cougars would score the game's final four points to earn the 65-60 win. 
 
Key Moment:
With the score 63-60 with 39-seconds remaining, the Trojans had the ball with a chance to tie, but Kamryn Mennemeyer came up with a big steal to help seal the win.
