Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College baseball team completed the three-game sweep against York College (Neb.) to open the season. Columbia won game 1 on Thursday, 1-0, followed by taking both games on Friday, 3-1 and 6-3.
The Cougars are now 3-0 on the season, while York falls to 0-5.
This marks the programs second 3-0 start since its reinstatement in 2017. The Cougars began the 2020 campaign 4-0.

The Scoring:
- T4 (YC) – The Panthers scored a run on a Columbia error. (YC 1, CC 0)
- B5 (CC) – Columba tied the game as David Dell scored on an error (YC 1, CC 1)
- B6 (CC) – The Cougars scored a pair of runs in their half of the 6th inning, as Kellen Williamson tripled home Braden Desonia and later scored on a single from Kole Ficken. (YC 1, CC 3)

The Scoring:
- T1 (YC) – The Panthers scored first on an RBI double (YC 1, CC 0)
- T2 (YC) – York added another run on a balk (YC 2, CC 0)
- B3 (CC) – Cade Carlson got the Cougars on the board with a sacrifice fly scoring Tom McKenna (YC 2, CC 1)
- T4 (YC) – York scored a run in the forth on a groundout.
- B6 (CC) – Columbia tallied five runs in the sixth inning. Braden Desonia doubled two home to tie the game at three, while Kellen Williamson scored the winning run on a wild pitch. The Cougars added two insurance runs on a McKenna single, who later scored on an error.
Individual Leaders:
- McKenna went 3-4 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI.
- Desonia drove in two runs.
- Columbia had three extra base hits.
- Leyton Cronky earned his first win of the season after tossing two innings in relief allowing just one baserunner on a walk and striking out four.
- Alex Grellner picked up the save (1) after shutting the door in the 7th. He did not allow a baserunner and added a strikeout.

The Cougars travel to Point Lookout, Missouri for a four-game series against Ozarks. The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 18 at 1:00 PM, followed by a doubleheader on Feb. 19 at 12:00 PM.
