Women's Basketball Wins Big at Home

Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College women's basketball got back in the win column with a dominating 72-37 win over Stephens on Tuesday evening. 
 
The Cougars remain in control of the second spot in the American Midwest Standings with an 11-2 AMC record, while Stephens is tied for the eighth spot at 3-10. 
 
Columbia (18-6) came out strong in the opening quarter, as a Peyton Crowe layup gave them a 7-2 advantage. The Stars (7-13) battled back to tie the game at 12-12 and eventually took a 14-13 lead to end the quarter. 
 
The Cougars opened the quarter on a 7-0 run. Columbia took control in the second period, outscoring the Stars, 20-7. After the Stars closed the gap to two points (23-21) with 5:41 left in the first half, Columbia ended the period on a 10-0 run and led by double digits at the intermission, 33-21. 
 
The Cougars continued to pressure the Stars, as the lead grew to 20 (47-27) with 1:46 left in the third. Columbia led by as many as 22 on three separate occasions in the period. 
 
Columbia would extend the lead in the fourth quarter to over 30 (68-37) with 1:57 left in the game, and they cruised to the 72-37 home victory. 
 
Key Moment:
A 10-0 run to end the first half extended the Cougar lead to double figures, 33-21.

12.5 – The Cougars held the Stars to a 12.5-percent (3-24) shooting performance from the 3-point line.
