Baseball Wins Two at Evangel on Friday

Springfield, Mo. – The Columbia College baseball team swept a doubleheader against the Evangel Valor on Friday.

The Cougars are now 10-3 on the season, while Evangel falls to 8-5.  

Game 1: Columbia def. Evangel, 5-1
The Scoring: Individual Leaders:
  • Tegan Woods led the Cougars with two hits.
  • Tom McKenna drove in a game-high three runs.
  • Devyn Lopez had a stolen base.
  • Dan Fick tossed a complete game allowing one earned run on four hits and striking out five.
 
Game 2: Columbia def. Evangel, 10-8
The Scoring:
  • T1 (CC) – The Cougars scored four times on a Kole Ficken grand slam (CC 4, EU)
  • B1 (EU) – Evangel answered back with four runs in their half of the first (CC4, EU 4)
  • T2 (CC) – Indy Stanley tripled home Cade Carlson and then scored on a wild pitch. Riley Poulton was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to add another Cougar run (CC 7, EU 4)
  • B2 (EU) – Evangel scored twice on a 3-run double (CC 7, EU 6)
  • B4 (EU) – The Valor took their first lead on a 2-run homer (CC 7, EU 8)
  • T6 (CC) – Ficken and David Dell picked up RBI hits, while Poulton reached on an error resulting in another Cougar run (CC 10, EU 8).
Individual Leaders:
  • Indy Stanley went 3-4 with a triple, walk, three runs scored, an RBI, and a stolen base.
  • Kole Ficken had a couple of hits and five RBIs.
  • Braden DeSonia, Stanley, and Ficken had multiple hits.
  • The Cougars went 5-5 in stolen bases.
  • Kaleb Richards earned the win tossing 4.1 innings allowing two earned runs and striking out three.
  • Alex Grellner picked up his third save of the season, pitching a perfect inning.
