Columbia, Mo. - The Cougar women's soccer team got their 2022 campaign started with a contest at NCAA Div. 1 Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) on Sunday night in Cape Girardeau. Mo. A back-and-forth physical contest saw the Cougars press the Redhawks with seven shots on goal. A late goal from the Redhawks in the 81st minute gave SEMO the 1-0 win over the Cougars. In goal,
Victoria Heus played a solid full game and finished with seven saves.

Grace Winegar each had two shots on goal.
Columbia poured on the offense early as they registered two shots and a corner kick in the first eight minutes of the game. From there, the Cougars and Redhawks played level for the remainder of the half.
Three minutes into the second-half, SEMO took a shot on an open goal, but a great defensive effort by
Ellie Hilton cleared the ball away. The Cougar defense held well until a loose ball was picked up by SEMO and converted just inside the box by Megan Heisserer, giving SEMO the 1-0 lead. The Cougars looked to rebound quickly but were unable to convert on a late corner kick.
