Cougars Beat Owls, Push Win Streak to Six

Columbia, Mo. - The Columbia College Women's Basketball team played host to the Owls of William Woods University today in American Midwest Conference action. After only leading by five after the first quarter, the Cougars turned it on on both sides of the court to cruise to a 66-41 win. With the win, the Cougars improve to 11-3 overall and 6-1 in AMC play.

It was a great team showing from Columbia as 11 different players scored. Hannah Ferguson led the way with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds; Abby Backes (9) and Allison Stiers (8) followed.

Columbia's defense held the Owls to just 26% shooting, including a dismal 13% from beyond the arc. The Cougars nearly doubled the Owls in field goal percentage as Columbia finished at 43%.

Allowing just nine points in the second quarter and then only eight in the third, the Cougar defense forced 11 turnovers while also out-rebounding the Owls 46-35.

The Cougars play three times next week, starting with a road contest at Harris-Stowe State University on Tuesday night in St. Louis.
