Quick Start Lifts Cougars Past No. 14 John Brown

Columbia, Mo. – The No. 9-ranked Columbia College women's soccer team scored three goals in a span of 66 seconds early in the first half en route to a 4-1 win over No. 14 John Brown University on Monday at R. Marvin Owens Field.

Columbia improved to 5-1 with the win, while John Brown dropped to 5-2. The Cougars extended their unbeaten streak at home to 14 games dating back to the 2022 season.

Macie Lucas (5:39) and Juana Wulff (5:54) netted a pair of goals just 15 seconds apart to put the Cougars up 2-0, and then Madeleine Shylanski beat four defenders and then fired a shot from just outside the 18 to make it 3-0 in the seventh minute. Abigail Logan assisted on two of the first three goals for the Cougars.

Columbia scored on its first three shots of the game and outshot John Brown 5-2 in the first half. The Cougars also had five corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes of play.

Emilia Zolesio Fernandez Blanco added an unassisted goal in the 74th minute to make it 4-0.

Natalie Allison made four saves in goal for the Cougars, who outshot John Brown 15-7 and had a 11-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Cougars have a week off before hosting RV Bellevue University on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 4:30 p.m.

NOTES: John Brown leads the all-time series 3-2, but Columbia has won the last two meetings ... The Cougars are 3-0 this season against ranked teams .. The goal for Lucas was the 27th of her career.
