Columbia, MO - Head Coach
Matt Moore recorded his first win as the Columbia College women's basketball team defeated the Spires of the University of Saint Mary in game one of the CoMo Classic.
Columbia took the early lead at 20-15 at the end of the first quarter with contributions from
DeLaney Horstman,
Mallory Shetley, and
Tori Rubel.
Although the Cougars struggled offensively in the second quarter, the Cougars forced five turnovers and limited the Spires to 7-of-22 made baskets.
Trailing 36-30 at the half, the Spires found new energy as Alanis Delgado and Addison Tower each recorded eight points to outscore the Cougars 21-18 in the quarter.
Holding onto a three-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter, the Cougars capitalized on their trips to the free-throw line as CC made 10 of 13 from the charity stripe. USM looked to cut the deficit and picked up a full-court press, but it was not enough as the Cougars held on to take the 74-65 win.
