SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - In their first American Midwest Conference (AMC) road matchup of the season, the Columbia College men's basketball team earned a 94-72 win over Mission University (Mo.).
The Cougars improve to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the AMC.
Columbia got off to a quick 7-3 lead with the help of
Collin Parker on a career night, putting up five points.
The Patriots took their first lead of the contest with 15:30 on the clock, 10-9.
The remainder of the half proved a closely contested matchup, as the Cougars took a 46-43 lead into the locker rooms.Â
In the opening half of action,
Collin Parker led the Cougars will 11 points, while
Beau Washer took down a team-high of five rebounds.
Columbia shot 51 percent from the field in the first half, while Mission shot nearly 49 percent.
Coming back from the half, an opening layup from Mission got the Patriots within one, but it was all Columbia moving forward.
The Cougars went on a 6-0 run, and led 63-46 with 13:54 on the clock.
Columbia continued to push, gaining their largest lead of the game of 28 points with 7:49 remaining in the contest.
Ultimately, Columbia overtook Mission by a final score of 94-72.
Points in the paint were key for the Cougars in the second half, putting up 26 points compared to eight from the Patriots.
Collin Parker exploded in the second half, scoring 21 points and going a perfect 3-for-3 from the arch. Parker scored a career-high of 32 points in the contest.
Beau Washer brought down nine rebounds, while
Seth Larson dished out six assists.
The Cougars put up 48 points in the final half, outscoring the Patriots by 19.
Columbia increased their field goal percentage to 54 percent, limiting Mission to just 31 percent from the field.
Columbia will return to action on their home court as they host the Hampton Inn Thanksgiving Classic November 26-27. Columbia will begin action against (RV) Dordt University (Iowa) at 7:00 p.m. on November 26.
