Cougars Knock off Top-Seeded Owls, Advance to Championship Game

Fulton, MO - The Columbia College men's soccer team used a late goal to knock-off the top-seeded Owls of William Woods University tonight in the semifinals of the American Midwest Conference tournament.

Columbia has not lost to William Woods since 2001 and moves its all time-record in the matchup to 26-2-4.

The Cougars now turn their attention to Tuesday, November 12th, when the team travels to St. Louis to take on the #2-seed Spartans of Missouri Baptist University.

After earning a draw with the Owls during the regular season, the Cougars were determined to extend their season and did so in dramatic fashion.

Possession was nearly level throughout the first half as both teams recorded seven shots each, respectively.

Even through much of the second half, it was a back and forth affair that saw Columbia gain some extra momentum as time was expiring.

On corner kick from Bruno Saucedo, Marcos Mateos flicked the ball off to Fabricio Roberti who found the back of the net with less than four minutes to play to give the Cougars the lead.

The Owls had one more chance to tie the game on a head from TJ Mathias, but he was unable to convert.
