No. 7 Volleyball Hosts CC Tri-Match

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The No. 7-ranked Columbia College volleyball team opened their season today as the host of the CC Tri-Match. The Cougars went 1-1 on the day, defeating Missouri Valley, 3-1, and falling to No. 13-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan, 3-0.

Columbia moves to 1-1 on the season.

Game One: #7 Columbia defeated Missouri Valley, 3-1 (27-29, 25-13, 25-17, 27-25)
The Cougars posted their highest hitting percentage of the match in the first set of nearly 30 percent.

Agatha Emanuelle and Allana Capella led the way with 13 kills apiece, while Emanuelle held a stellar hitting percentage of 52 percent.

Taylor Johnson posted a game-high of four service aces out of the 13 accumulated by the Cougars.

Emanuelle also led the way with 19 points and 6 blocks in the match. 

Giovanna Bicalho dished out 23 assists, while Aubrey Kohl added 19.

Mariana De Carvalho notched 12.5 points, initiating eight kills and three service aces.

Columbia produced 52 kills in the outing, while hitting 21 percent.


Game Two: #13 Oklahoma Wesleyan defeated #7 Columbia, 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-16)
Columbia struggled to find a rhythm offensively, hitting 14 percent, while Oklahoma Wesleyan held a hitting percentage of 40 percent.

The Cougars posted 31 kills in the contest, led by Alayna Rooks with eight. Sude Gundogan notched a hitting percentage of 67 percent, recording six kills.

Giovanna Bicalho contributed 11 assists, followed by Aubrey Kohl with seven.

Fabiana Mucciola also added 10 digs.


Columbia returns to action as they host the Hampton Inn Volleyball Classic August 23-24, beginning with No. 4-ranked Concordia University (Neb.). First serve is set for 6:00 PM on August 23.
