Sioux City, Iowa - The fourteenth ranked Cougars of Columbia College started their 2024 season today with a road contest against the Chargers of Briar Cliff University.
The Cougars got on the scoreboard quickly with a goal from
Miguel Gonzalez off a pass from
Cooper Allen less than three minutes into the game.
Columbia registered eight shots in the first half while holding BCU to five.
At the 36-minute mark,
Joshua Peterson converted off of a pass from
Joao Pimenta to make it 2-0 in CC's favor.
After leading for 87 minutes of play, the Cougars conceded one goal as Herman Toftevag scored to cut Columbia's lead to 2-1.
It would not be enough, however, as time expired with Columbia holding on to their 2-1 lead.
Briar Cliff upped their offensive pressure in the second half as they would out-shoot Columnbia, 13-11.
In goal,
Alejandro Molto Munoz registered three saves to also start the season 1-0.
The Cougars are back in action this weekend at home as they play Missouri Valley College at home on Saturday, August 31st.
