COLUMBIA, Mo. - The No. 25 Columbia College volleyball team saw action in the CC Tri-Match, taking on (RV) Ottawa University (Kan.) and No. 18 Central Methodist (Mo.).
In the first match of the day, Cougars fell to the Braves 3-1 (20-25, 25-16, 19-25, 21-25). Columbia rounded out the tri-match against Central Methodist, resulting in a thrilling 3-2 (25-19, 26-28, 25-21, 20-25, 17-15) advantage.
Columbia moves to 10-9 on the season.
Game One: (RV) Ottawa defeated #25 Columbia, 3-1 (20-25, 25-16, 19-25, 21-25)
In set one, the Braves produced their highest hitting percentage of the match at .343, while the Cougars hit just .189. Ottawa took set one 25-20.
Columbia produced a 13-0 run in the second set, eventually taking a 25-16 advantage. The Braves hit only -.028 in set two, as the Cougars maintained .206.
Ottawa found their rhythm once again, gathering 13 kills in sets three and four.Â
The Braves finished with 16 blocks in the contest, while Columbia added four.
Mariana De Carvalho registered a double-double, adding 11 kills and 12 digs. De Carvalho also produced two service aces.
Allana Capella chipped in 10 kills, collecting 12 points.
Sude Gundogan held a hitting percentage of .353, adding eight kills, while also leading Columbia with three blocks.
Hannah Vogt dished out 16 assists, while
Alexa Olson followed with 15.
Defensively,
Isabella Kincaid gathered 17 digs.
Game Two: #25 Columbia defeated #18 Central Methodist, 3-2 (25-19, 26-28, 25-21, 20-25, 17-15)
Columbia came out of the gates strong, finding themselves on a 6-0 run as
Katerina Pappa knocked down two kills.
The Cougars maintained the lead throughout the remainder of the opening set and secured what would be their highest hitting percentage of the match at .186.
Several back-and-forth battles came about in set two, but ultimately, the Eagles notched their best hitting percentage of the contest at .220.
Both teams struggled offensively in the third set, but the Cougars would prevail, taking a 25-21 advantage on 12 kills.
In set four, Columbia battled offensively, making nine attack errors. Central Methodist held onto the fourth set, claiming 12 kills to go along with 7 attack errors.
Despite trailing by two 4-0 runs by the Eagles, the Cougars stayed collected, producing a 5-0 run, tying up the contest at 13-13.
Katerina Pappa saved a match point at 14-13 with a kill, keeping Columbia in the game.Â
Two attack errors from Central Methodist sealed the deal for Columbia as they took the final set, 17-15.
The Cougars outperformed the Eagles 65-54 in kills, 5-1 in aces, and 11-9 in blocks.
Mariana De Carvalho had a career day, knocking down 24 kills and three blocks, for a total of 27 points.
Katerina Pappa added 13 kills.
Agatha Emanuelle produced six blocks.
Hannah Vogt connected on 25 assists, while
Alexa Olson contributed 22.
Clara Gower picked up 29 digs.
Columbia returns to action on October 2 as they host Stephens College (Mo.) at 6:00 p.m.
