Five Cougars Score in Double Figures in Loss to #17 CBC

Columbia, Mo. – Collin Parker recorded a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds but it was not enough as the Columbia College men's basketball team suffered an 85-81 loss to No. 17-ranked Central Baptist College Thursday at the Arena of Southwell Complex.
 
Central Baptist won its third-straight game to improve to 13-3 (8-0 AMC), while Columbia had its four-game win streak snapped and fell to 12-5 (5-2 AMC). 
 
Harrison Vickers added 17 points, while Carson Parker (12 points), Seth Larson (12 points, nine rebounds) and Kai Steinman (11 points) also scored in double figures Columbia, which shot 49.2 percent (31-63) from the field and hit 13-of-14 from the free-throw line.
 
Central Baptist had an early 16-11 lead eight minutes into the contest as the Cougars had a stretch where they missed five of six shots from the field. Collin Parker canned a three and Larson scored on a lay-up to tie the game at 16-16 with less than 12 minutes left.
 
Back-to-back threes from CBC pushed its advantage to 27-21, and the Mustangs drilled their eighth three of the half to push the lead to 32-24 with 6:34 before half.
 
Central Baptist connected on nine three-pointers in the first half and held a slim 40-37 halftime advantage. Collin Parker had 12 points and six rebounds to lead Columbia.
 
Steinman's three-point play trimmed the advantage to two (42-40), but CBC followed with a 9-4 run to make it 51-44 and force a CC timeout.
 
Vickers canned a three-pointer and scored on a lay-up to trim the lead to 55-52, and then hit a three to trim the CBC lead to 71-69 with 6:29 to play. The Cougars got the lead down to one (74-73) with 4:29 left, but missed eight of their last 10 shots from the field. 
 
Jonas Carlisle (18 points, nine rebounds), Wade Williams (16 points, six rebounds), Gabe Johnson (15 points), Brian Alexander (11 points), Sage Borbon (10 points) and Devin Foster (10 points) scored in double figures for Central Baptist, which hit 12 threes in the win.
 
The Cougars play at Missouri Baptist University on Saturday, January 18 at 3 p.m.
 
NOTES: The Cougars have lost three-straight meetings against Central Baptist and lead the all-time series 13-10 ... Collin Parker is five points (1,864) shy of becoming the program's all-time leading scorer ... Beau Washer had nine rebounds and is ninth in program history (636) .. The six threes made by Columbia were the second fewest total of the season.
