Collin Parker Becomes MBB All-Time Leading Scorer

Columbia, Mo. – Collin Parker recorded a double-double with 10 points and a career-best 19 rebounds to become the Columbia College men's basketball team all-time leading scorer in an 87-69 victory Saturday at Missouri Baptist University Saturday in St. Louis.
 
Parker upped his career total to 1,874 points, and eclipsed the previous mark set by Mike Kiehne (1,868). He is now just 126 points shy of 2,000 for his career.
 
Columbia improved to 13-5 (6-2 AMC) with the win, while Missouri Baptist fell to 8-11 (5-4 AMC). The Cougars remain in third place in the American Midwest Conference Standings, two games behind first place Central Baptist.
 
Nate Brandt led Columbia in scoring with a career-high 23 points on five three-pointers, while Kai Steinman (16 points, six rebounds) and Carson Parker (12 points, eight rebounds) also scored in double figures. The Cougars shot 47.8 percent (32-67 ) from the field in the win and outrebounded Missouri Baptist 54-33.
 
Brandt had the hot hand early in the contest as he scored 10 of the first 15 points for the Cougars as they led 15-7. Adam Sausele highlighted an 8-0 run with a follow-up dunk to push the advantage to 28-12. 
 
Columbia took its largest lead of the half at 37-20 with 6:38 left on a three-pointer by Brandt, but the Spartans closed the first half on an 8-2 run to trim the lead to 44-33.
 
Brandt had 15 points as the Cougars shot 44.4 percent (16-36) from the field in the first half.
 
Parker's left-handed lay-up with 17:55 left pushed the advantage to 52-35 and broke a tie with Kiehne as the all-time scoring leader. 
 
A 16-4 run by Missouri Baptist trimmed the advantage to 54-49, but a 15-1 run by the Cougars got the lead back to double digits at 67-55 with 12:27 to play. Columbia put the game out of reach with an 11-2 run and push the lead to 79-58.
 
Austin Lewis (16 points) and Evan Palmquist (15 points, eight rebounds) scored in double figures for Missouri Baptist, which hit just 9-of-33 from three-point range in the loss.
 
The Cougars host Health Sciences and Pharmacy on Monday, January 20 at 5 p.m.
 
NOTES: Columbia leads the all-time series 54-33 ... The double-double for Collin Parker was the 19th of his career.
