Carson Parker Joins 1,000-Point Club in Win Over UHSP

Columbia, Mo.Carson Parker scored 10 points to become the 31st member of the 1,000-point club as the Columbia College men's basketball team recorded a 96-54 win over University of Health and Sciences Monday at the Arena of Southwell Complex.
 
Parker connected on a jumper with 3:42 left in the second half for his 1,000th point.
 
Collin Parker led the way for the Cougars with 23 points and six rebounds, while Harrison Vickers (16 points), Seth Larson (13 points) and Nate Brandt (11 points, seven rebounds) also scored in double figures. The Cougars shot 60.3 percent (38-63) from the field and outrebounded UHSP 38-26.
 
Columbia won its second-consecutive game to improve to 14-5 (7-2 AMC), while UHSP fell to 7-11 (0-8 AMC). The Cougars remain two games behind first-place Central Baptist in the American Midwest Conference standings.
 
The Cougars jumped out to a 9-3 lead, but the Eutectics responded with an 8-2 run to tie the game at 11-11. Vickers scored six-straight points to highlight an 11-2 run as Columbia jumped in front 29-21 with 8:00 left before half.
 
Kai Steinman scored five-straight points to highlight a 16-0 run as the lead grew to 44-24.
 
Columbia took a commanding 47-32 lead to halftime as the Cougars shot 55.2 percent (16-29) from the field with six three-pointers. Vickers had 13 first-half points, while Brandt added 11.
 
The lead grew to 60-35 following an 13-0 run as the Cougars limited to UHSP without a bucket for 7:44. Columbia scored the final 11 points of the game and ended the contest on a 20-2 run, making its last five shots from the field. Collin Parker had 14 second-half points.
 
Landon Engelage scored 19 points on 6-of-9 field goals to lead UHSP, which shot 35.7 percent (20-56) from the field in the loss.
 
The Cougars host Hannibal-LaGrange University on Thursday, January 23 at 7:30 p.m.
 
NOTES: Columbia won its ninth-straight game against UHSP and leads the all-time series 20-2 ... Parker moved into third all-time in program history in rebounds (739) ... Steinman filled up the stat sheet with seven points, five rebounds and five assists.
