Cougars Remain Perfect With Lopsided Victory

Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College women's basketball team scored the first 14 points of the contest and never looked in an 91-48 win over Central Baptist College Thursday at the Arena of Southwell Complex. 
 
The Cougars scored 20 or more points in all four quarters and connected on a season-high 15 three-pointers.
 
Mallory Shetley had a game-high 16 points and seven rebounds, while Lexi Miller (15 points), Ashtyn Klusmeyer (11 points) and Mya Miller (11 points, eight rebounds) also scored in double figures. Columbia limited the Mustangs to 26.7 percent (16-60) shooting and had a 58-29 rebounding advantage.
 
Columbia remained undefeated at 15-0 (9-0 AMC), while Central Baptist lost its-second consecutive game and fell to 7-7 (5-5 AMC). The Cougars extended their home winning streak to 38 games dating back to 2022.
 
The Cougars hit their first five shots from the field and led 14-0 in the opening 2:23. Lexi Miller had nine of the first 14 points for the Cougars. Lauren Friedrich connected on a wing three as Columbia ended the quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 28-10 advantage. The Cougars hit 6-of-9 from three-point range in in the opening 10 minutes.
 
Klusmeyer and Mya Miller each canned a three-pointer as the Cougars ended the second quarter on a 16-2 run to take a 48-17 lead at halftime.
 
Lexi Miller (15 points) and Shetley (10) scored in double figures in the first half for Columbia, which shot 47.1 percent (16-34) from the field with eight three-pointers.
 
The Cougar lead grew to 35 (63-28) with 2:35 left in the third quarter on a three-pointer by Abby Backes. Columbia led 68-34 after three quarters.
 
Alli Robertson had a career-high nine points off the bench in the fourth quarter, connecting on 3-of-3 from beyond the arc.
 
Raigan Head had 15 points and eight rebounds to lead Central Baptist in the loss.
 
The Cougars play at Missouri Baptist University on Saturday, January 18 at 1 p.m.
 
NOTES: Columbia won its 14th-straight game against Central Baptist and leads the all-time series 21-1 ... Backes had eight points, six rebounds and six assists and moved into 19th in program history in points scored (1,026) ... Shetley moved into 18th place in steals (134).
