Cougars Extend Home Court Win Streak to 40 Games

Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College women's basketball team extended its home winning streak to 40 games with an 89-33 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange University Thursday at the Arena of Southwell Complex.
 
Columbia remained undefeated at 18-0 (12-0 AMC), while Hannibal-LaGrange suffered its 12th-straight defeat and fell to 3-15 (0-12 AMC).
 
Lexi Miller recorded the first double-double of her career with a career-high 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Lauren Friedrich (14), Ashtyn Klusmeyer (14), Mallory Shetley (14) and Abby Backes (10 points, six assists) also scored in double figures. Columbia had a 62-21 rebounding advantage and outscored HLG 42-11 in bench points.
 
Columbia jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the opening five minutes of play, and took a double-digit lead (19-8) after a three-pointer by Klusmeyer. Miller scored the final seven points of the quarter as the lead grew to 26-9. Miller led the Cougars with 11 points and seven rebounds.
 
Columbia closed out the second quarter on a 13-1 run as the lead grew to 43-16 at half. Friedrich canned back-to-back-to-back three-pointers during a 2:09 span for the Cougars.
 
Miller led the Cougars with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Shetley added 10 and Freidrich had nine. Columbia limited HLG to 25.0 percent (6-24) shooting in the first half.
 
The Cougars opened the third quarter on a 14-0 run as Miller had 10 points with a pair of three-pointers as the lead grew to 57-16. Columbia hit 11-of-16 from the field in the third quarter and led 74-25.
 
Ivy Lesley (17 points) and Ainsley Diepenbrock (11) scored in double figures for Hannibal-LaGrange, which was limited to 25.0 percent shooting (12-48) in the loss.
 
The Cougars host Mission University on Saturday, January 25 at 1 p.m.
 
NOTES: Columbia won its 47th-straight game against HLG and leads the all-time series 50-1 ... Shetley became the second player in program history to score 1,900 or more points (1,907) in a career ... The Cougars have won 18-straight AMC games dating back to last season ... Backes moved to sixth in program history in assists (362).
