Cougars Shoot Lights Out in Win at Harris-Stowe

St. Louis, Mo. – The Columbia College men's basketball team shot a season-high 70.2 percent from the field with 18 three-pointers in a 102-59 victory at Harris-Stowe State University Thursday in St. Louis.
 
Collin Parker recorded the 18th double-double of his career with 27 points and 13 rebounds, while Nate Brandt had a career-high 15 points on five three-pointers. Seth Larson (13 points, six assists), Harrison Vickers (11 points) and Carson Parker (10 points, six rebounds) also scored in double figures for the Cougars.
 
Collin Parker eclipsed 1,800 points (1,810) for his career in the win, and is 58 points shy of the all-time scoring record of 1,868 set by Mike Kiehne. He also moved into fourth place on the all-time rebounding list (694).
 
The Cougars won their third-straight game to improve to 11-4 (5-1 AMC), while Harris-Stowe lost its sixth-straight contest and fell to 4-10 (1-5 AMC).
 
Columbia hit its first three from beyond the arc and led 11-2 in the opening 2:08. The Cougars went on a 10-0 run to extend the lead to 25-6 with 10:41 to play before half.
 
Zhvaughn Ward came off the bench and quickly made an impact draining a three and then scored on a driving lay-up to make it 33-11.
 
Columbia shot 65.5 percent (19-29) from the field in the first half, including 10-of-15 from three-point range, to take a 51-19 lead. Collin Parker had 16 points on four three-pointers, while Carson Parker and Vickers added eight points each. 
 
The Cougars limited Harris-Stowe to 0-of-9 shooting in the first half and had a 27-7 rebounding advantage.
 
Vickers canned a wing three to highlight a 9-2 run as the lead grew to 66-29, and then Brandt drained back-to-back wing three to extend the lead to 72-32 with 12:35 to play. The Cougars 75.0 percent (21-28) from the field in the second half.
 
Bennie Amos III (14 points), Seth Chargois (13) and Kevin Jones (12) scored in double figures for Harris-Stowe, which was limited to 37.3 percent (25-67) from the field and just 2-of-19 from three-point range. 
 
The Cougars hit the road for a non-conference game at Haskell Indian Nations University on Saturday, January 11 at 3 p.m.
 
NOTES: Columbia has won eight-straight meetings against Harris-Stowe and leads the all-time series 69-7 ... The Cougars outrebounded the Hornets 45-22 ... Columbia has scored over 100 points and hit 18 threes in each of the last two games ... Carson Parker moved to 12th on the all-time rebounding list (565).
