Columbia, Mo. - The Columbia College men's soccer team drop a hard fought non-conference match up to Bellevue University on Wednesday evening at home. The Cougars move to 6-5-2 on the season after the loss, snapping a four game win streak.Â
The Cougars dominated possession and created numerous scoring opportunities, firing 15 shots compared to Bellevue's 12, but couldn't find the breakthrough against a determined Bruins defense.
The match remained scoreless through a tightly contested first half, with both goalkeepers making crucial saves. Columbia's Osman Naz was particularly busy early, making five saves in the opening 45 minutes to keep the match level.
Bellevue (9-6-1) broke the deadlock in the 55th minute when Adam Sherwood scored his ninth goal of the season off an assist from Juan Lagares.
Columbia responded with increased urgency, earning four corner kicks in the second half and launching 10 shots after the break. Cameron Watts led the offensive charge with two shots on goal, while Josh Sutton added four attempts. However, Bellevue goalkeeper Kaden Simpson made three second-half saves to preserve the clean sheet and secure his eighth win of the season.
Naz finished with seven saves for the Cougars in the losing effort, while the Columbia defense limited Bellevue to just eight shots on target.
The Cougars will look to get back in the win column as they host Harris-Stowe State University Saturday, Oct. 18th at 1:30 p.m.Â
