HANNIBAL, Mo. – Columbia College volleyball continued its strong conference play Saturday, sweeping both matches of a doubleheader at Hannibal-LaGrange University to improve to 11-12 overall and 9-1 in the American Midwest Conference.
The Cougars defeated Harris-Stowe 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-13) in the morning match before following up with another 3-0 sweep (25-23, 25-15, 25-12) over Williams Baptist in the afternoon.
Match 1: Columbia 3, Harris-Stowe 0
Viola Giangreco led the attack with eight kills, and Samira Baltazar added seven kills with three block assists. Kenedi Canty contributed four kills with three block assists.
Hannah Vogt orchestrated the offense with 19 assists while adding two kills, and Alexa Olson chipped in 14 assists and six service aces. The Cougars' serving was particularly effective, with nine aces as a team.
Taylor Johnson finished with 15 digs, while Rita Marques added 11 digs. Emma Faulconer contributed seven digs.
Columbia dominated the third set while holding Harris-Stowe to negative attacking. Olson served eight consecutive points in the final set to help the Cougars pull away for the victory.
Match 2: Columbia 3, Williams Baptist 0
Heather Bana led all hitters with eight kills while hitting .231 and adding a block assist. Kenedi Canty had an outstanding offensive performance with seven kills on a .700 hitting percentage, while Isabella Kincaid added six kills.
Hannah Vogt once again controlled the offense with 18 assists and five service aces, including a dominant stretch in the third set where she served 11 consecutive points to blow the match open. Alexa Olson contributed 13 assists.
Taylor Johnson was a force on defense with 13 digs and four service aces, while Emma Faulconer added nine digs.
The first set was closely contested, with 11 ties and five lead changes before Columbia secured the 25-23 victory. The Cougars then dominated the second and third sets, hitting .370 and .348 respectively to close out the sweep.
