Cougars Drain 16 Threes in Win at Crowley's Ridge

Paragould, Ark. – The Columbia College women's basketball team had four players in double figures and hit a season-high 16 three-pointers to snap a two-game skid with a 100-61victory Saturday at Crowley's Ridge College in Paragould, Ark.
 
Columbia improved to 19-2 (13-2 AMC) with the win, while Crowley's Ridge lost its fourth-straight game and fell to 7-13 (2-12 AMC). The Cougars remain in second place in the AMC standings and one game behind first place William Baptist.
 
Lexi Miller scored 17 of her career-high 25 points in the first quarter on seven three-pointers, while Mya Miller (17 points, eight rebounds), Abby Backes (14 points, seven assists) and Ashtyn Klusmeyer (14 points, eight rebounds) all scored in double figures for the Cougars.
 
Tori Rubel just missed a double-double with nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while Mallory Shetley filled up the stat sheet with eight points, eight assists and five rebounds.
 
Columbia shot 52.1 percent (37-71) from the field in the win and outrebounded Crowley's Ridge 48-23. The Cougars had 24 assists and dominated points in the paint 40-16.
 
The Cougars scored the first 11 points of the game as Lexi Miller canned three straight from beyond the arc to start the contest. CRC trimmed the advantage to 15-11, but the Cougars responded with nine-straight points to get the lead to 24-11 with 4:01 left in the first.
 
Columbia led 36-20 after one quarter of play after shooting 70.6 percent (13-18) from the field with nine three-pointers. Lexi Miller had 17 points on 5-of-6 from three-point range.
 
The Cougars build a 48-23 advantage with a 10-0 run behind threes from Lexi Miller and Abby Backes and took a 58-33 lead to halftime.
 
Lexi Miller had 20 points on six threes to lead the Cougars, while Lauren Friedrich and Mya Miller added nine points each. Columbia hit 12-of-21 from three-point range in the first half.
 
Mya Miller scored four points to highlight a 7-0 run midway through the third quarter to extend the lead to 30 (69-39). Columbia outscored Crowley's Ridge 21-13 in the quarter to extend the advantage to 79-46.
 
The Cougars opened the fourth quarter on a 12-2 run to put the game out of reach at 91-48.
 
Kiyuana Foster (10 points) and Ansley Dawson (10) scored in double figures for Crowley's Ridge, which shot 30.3 percent (20-66) from the field in the loss.
 
The Cougars host William Woods University on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. 
 
NOTES: Columbia has won both all-time meetings between the two teams ... Backes moved into fifth in program history in assists (347).
