CONWAY, Ark. -
Mallory Shetley added 24 points and nine rebounds in today's win over Central Baptist College (Ark.), as she became the all-time leading scoring leader in Columbia College women's basketball history.
The Cougars defeated the Mustangs 88-59, improving to 24-3 this season and 18-3 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC).
Columbia outscored Central Baptist 22-11 in the opening quarter, as
Mallory Shetley led the way with eight points. With 16 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Shetley secured her 2,080th career point, moving to first on the all-time scoring list for Cougar women's basketball.
In the second quarter of action, Central Baptist went on a 7-0 run, coming within four at 29-25. Columbia was able to respond, tallying an 11-0 run themselves, which took them into the half with a 40-28 advantage.
Out of the locker room, the Cougars shot their best of the game, nearly 63 percent from the field in the third quarter.
Abby Backes added nine points (4-6 FG, 1-1 3PT), seven of which came in the last 1:18 of the period. Columbia held a 64-41 edge heading into the final quarter of play.
The Cougars obtained their largest lead of the contest with 5:09 remaining in the game, 83-46.
Lexi Miller went on an impressive 11-0 run by herself, shooting 4-of-5 from the field and 3-of-4 from three point range.
Columbia went on to defeat Central Baptist, 88-59.
Mallory Shetley and
Lexi Miller led all scorers with 24 points, while
Abby Backes produced 22.
Mallory Shetley also brought down nine rebounds, dishing out six assists.
Columbia wraps up regular season action on senior day as they host Missouri Baptist University on February 22 at 1:00 p.m.
