Lacrosse Earns OT Win Over Saint Ambrose

DAVENPORT, Iowa - Picking up their second-straight win, the Columbia College lacrosse team saw an overtime victory over Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) this afternoon. The Cougars overcame the Fighting Bees 14-13.

Columbia sits at 2-4 on the season and 2-0 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC).

The Cougars and Fighting Bees sat even after the first quarter of action, knotted at 3-3. In period two, Columbia upped their offensive intensity, scoring four goals on 15 shots. The Cougars also went a perfect 5-5 in clear opportunities. Dylan Forbeck led Columbia with two goals, as they held a 7-4 lead into halftime.

St. Ambrose was able to put pieces together out of the half, showing a strong offensive presence. The Fighting Bees accumulated six goals on 17 shots, while also limiting the Cougars to four goals on eight shots. After three quarters, St. Ambrose led 10-9.

Drake Morrissey found the back of the goal twice in the final period of regulation. Fletcher Wood put the Cougars up 13-12 with 3:39 remaining in regulation. Just seconds later, the Fighting Bees scored the tying goal at 13-13.

Adam Spriggs scored the game-winning goal, assisted by Nico Andrews with 2:34 remaining on the clock. Columbia went on to take the contest 14-13

The Fighting Bees outshot the Cougars 42-40, while Columbia produced 21 shots on goal. Each squad endured 17 turnovers in the contest and saw a nearly equal amount of clears. Columbia won 16 faceoffs, while St. Ambrose controlled 14.
