SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - In their third-consecutive away contest, the Columbia College lacrosse team faced No. 9 Lawrence Tech (Mich.), falling 23-13.
Columbia moves to 0-3 on the season.
Lawrence Tech controlled the first quarter, outscoring Columbia 6-1. The Blue Devils supplemented one more shot than the Cougars in the opening quarter with 13. Columbia went 3-for-4 in clear attempts, while Lawrence Tech issued a perfect 6-for-6.
Both teams were nearly equal with shots in the second quarter, as the Blue Devils had 14 attempts, while the Cougars produced 13.
Zach Baker added three of Columbia's four goals in the period. Columbia notched eight successful faceoffs to Lawrence Tech's three. However, turnovers accumulated for the Cougars, and the Blue Devils held a 12-5 advantage into the half.
In the third quarter, the Cougar defense only allowed three goals, forcing five turnovers. Columbia picked up four goals of their own. Columbia also outshot Lawrence Tech 16-5 in the third quarter of action. Heading into the final stanza, the Cougars trailed 15-9.
Posting their highest goal total of the game, the Blue Devils accumulated eight goals in the closing quarter, outshooting the Cougars 18-7. Lawrence Tech won the contest by a final of 23-13.
