Conway, Ark. – The Columbia College softball team delivered a strong performance on Tuesday afternoon at the AMC Softball Championships, defeating Cottey College 4-1 in a neutral-site matchup at College Park.
With the victory, the Cougars improved to 27-12 on the season and move in the winners bracket tomorrow where they will take on William Woods University at 12:00PM.
Columbia broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning with two runs, then added two more in the sixth to secure the 4-1 victory.
Freshman pitcher Megan Graver turned in a dominant complete-game performance. She allowed just two hits and one earned run, while striking out eight and walking only two. Graver threw 110 pitches — 79 of them for strikes — and improved her season record to 13-5.
At the plate, the Cougars tallied eight hits and drew four walks. Abigail Zismer delivered a double, scored twice, and drove in one run to lead the offensive effort. Ellie Kliethermes went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Kennedy Schanuth also recorded two hits and an RBI. Additional RBI came from Cassidy Avery and Wendy van Wijk.
Columbia's defense was sharp, committing no errors and backing Graver with strong play in the field.
