Oklahoma City, OK - The Columbia College women's soccer team delivered a dominant defensive performance while finding the back of the net twice in the first half, defeating Mid-America Christian University 2-0 on Monday afternoon at Dill Soccer Field. The win notches Head Coach Lauren Robb's first win as a Columbia College Cougar.Â
The Cougars struck first in the 20th minute when Renata Mendez capitalized on an opportunity, scoring her first goal of the season unassisted to give Columbia College a 1-0 advantage.
Columbia College nearly fell behind early when Mid-America Christian was awarded a penalty kick in the 5th minute, but Natalie Allison came up with a crucial save to deny the attempt and keep the match scoreless.
The Cougars doubled their lead before halftime when Madeleine Shylanski found the back of the net in the 42nd minute, assisted by Georgia Pardalos, sending Columbia College into the break with a comfortable 2-0 advantage.
Columbia outshot Mid-America Christian 22-15 for the match, with Shylanski leading the attack with four shots and three on target. Pardalos contributed five shots and added an assist, while Mendez recorded three shots along with her goal.
Allison was solid between the posts for Columbia College, making five saves to earn the shutout victory and improve to 1-4-1 on the season. The Mid-America Christian goalkeeper made five saves in a losing effort for the Evangels, who dropped to 5-2-0.
The Cougars were efficient in their attack, converting two of their seven shots on goal, while Mid-America Christian managed just five shots on target despite earning eight corner kicks to Columbia College's four.
