Columbia, Mo. - The Cougars of Columbia College opened their American Midwest Conference slate with a dominant three-set sweep over the Eagles of Williams Baptist University on Friday night at Southwell Complex.
The win moves Columbia to 2-10 overall and 1-0 in AMC play, while Williams Baptist falls to 1-10 overall and 0-3 in conference action.
Columbia controlled the match from start to finish with set scores of 25-11, 25-13, and 25-13. The Cougars hit .186 as a team while holding the Eagles to a -.127 attack percentage.
The Cougars dominated in nearly every statistical category, out-hitting Williams Baptist 28-14 (kills) and recording 12 service aces compared to just one for the Eagles. Columbia also held a significant advantage in digs (33-22) and blocks (14-6).
Viola Giangreco paced the Cougars' offensive attack with seven kills on .294 hitting, while Mila Zoric was nearly perfect with four kills on .800 hitting.
Hannah Vogt had a great all-around performance, recording seven service aces that tie for fifth-best in program single-game history. Vogt also contributed eight assists and two kills.
Alexa Olson finished with 11 assists and two service aces.
Defensively, Taylor Johnson led the way with 10 digs, while Emma Faulconer contributed five.
