Cougars Pick Up Road Win Over Hornets

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The (RV) Columbia College men's basketball team (15-2, 3-0) remained unbeaten in American Midwest Conference play with a commanding 95-82 victory over Harris-Stowe State University (Mo.) on Saturday afternoon.

The game was tightly contested throughout the first half, featuring five ties and three lead changes. Harris-Stowe jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but Columbia answered with back-to-back three-pointers from Johnny Anderson to take control. The Hornets battled back to tie the game at 35-35 midway through the half before the Cougars closed on a 9-8 run to take a slim 44-43 advantage into the break.

Jemeal Goines was unstoppable in the opening period, going a perfect 7-for-7 from the field for 14 points. Both teams shot over 51 percent in the first half, setting up an offensive showcase.

Columbia seized control in the second half, shooting 59.3 percent and going a perfect 18-for-18 from the free-throw line. The Cougars shot their best of the season at 55.2 percent (32-58) from the field and 92.3 percent (24-26) from the charity stripe.

Goines finished with a remarkable 11-for-12 performance from the field, totaling 25 points in just 29 minutes. Caleb Jones added 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while Anderson recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Aj Walker (13 points) and Adam Sausele (12 points) also reached double figures.

The Cougars dominated the glass with a 39-29 rebounding advantage and scored 46 points in the paint. Harris-Stowe (3-11, 0-3) was led by Nashawn Davis with 18 points and Umar Lawson with 15 off the bench, but couldn't overcome Columbia's second-half efficiency.

Columbia returns home to face Mission University (Mo.) for AMC action on January 15th at 7:30 p.m.
