Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College women's basketball team raced to a 21-point first-quarter lead and never looked back in a 101-66 win over the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy on Tuesday at the Arena of Southwell Complex. The 101 points scored were a season-high for the Cougars.
Lauren Friedrich recorded a double-double with a career-high 30 points and 14 rebounds and tied the single-game school record with eight three-pointers.
Mya Miller (15 points),
Lexi Miller (12) and
Macie Harman (10) also scored in double figures, while
Lexi Rubel just missed a triple-double with nine points, nine rebounds and a career-best nine assists.
Columbia won its 12th-straight game to improve to 23-1 and 14-0 in the American Midwest Conference (AMC), while UHSP dropped to 12-12 and 9-5 in the AMC.
The Cougars shot 47.1 percent (40-of-85) from the field in the win, including 14-of-34 from three-point range, and had a 57-44 rebounding advantage.
Columbia opened the contest by hitting four of its first five shots from the field, jumping out to a 10-0 lead in the opening two minutes. The Cougars extended the margin to 16-1 and did not allow a field goal until the 5:06 mark of the first quarter.
Friedrich scored eight points in the period, while
Lexi Miller and
Mya Miller added seven points each as Columbia built a commanding 29-8 advantage. CC's defense was dominant early, limiting UHSP to just 3-of-18 shooting in the first 10 minutes.
A three-pointer from
Lexi Miller highlighted a 9-0 run in the second quarter as the lead ballooned to 43-12 with 6:34 remaining before halftime. Columbia carried a 52-24 lead into the break behind 14 points and 11 rebounds from Friedrich, while
Mya Miller (11 points) and
Lexi Miller (10 points) also reached double figures in the half.
The Cougars opened the third quarter on a 15–2 run, with Friedrich scoring eight points as the lead expanded to 67-26. Columbia came out of the break hot, hitting six of its first seven shots from the field, and took a 75-40 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Aryanna Bull (26 points) and Alise Milenberga (13) scored in double figures for UHSP, who were limited to 2-of-18 from beyond the arc in the loss.
The Cougars travel to Mission University on Thursday, February 12 at 5:30 p.m.
