Columbia, MO- The Columbia College men's lacrosse team opened their season with a thrilling comeback victory tonight, defeating #10 Lawrence Tech 13-8 at R. Marvin Owens Field.
Columbia, now 1-0, will play next on the road on February 17th against (RV) Michigan-Dearborn in Dearborn, Michigan.Â
After Lawrence Tech jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first quarter, the Cougars battled back. Wyatt Salenbien scored twice for the Blue Devils, while Brendan Shinavier and Parker Gannon added goals to give Lawrence Tech a commanding start.
Columbia got on the board in the second quarter when Brock Pleis scored on a man-up opportunity. Nico Andrews followed with back-to-back goals, and the Cougars trailed 7-4 at the half.
The Cougars completely flipped the script in the third quarter, outscoring Lawrence Tech 6-0. Jack McDowell opened the scoring, followed by goals from Nico Andrews, Drake Morrissey, and Andrews again. Morrissey scored his second of the period to give Columbia their first lead of the game at 8-7. Pleis added two more goals to close out the quarter with Columbia leading 10-7.
Columbia held on in the fourth quarter despite a goal from Lawrence Tech. Kai Garriock, Drake Morrissey, and Brock Pleis scored to seal the victory for the Cougars.
