Women's Basketball Advances to AMC Semifinals, Lexi Miller Breaks Career Three-Point Record

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Columbia College women's basketball team advanced to the AMC Tournament semifinals with a 70-44 victory over Cottey College Thursday afternoon, improving to 28-1 on the season. With two three-pointers in today's contest, Lexi Miller has broken the Columbia College women's basketball record for career three-pointers made, sitting atop the record books with 275.

The Cougars came out firing in the first quarter, building a 19-10 advantage behind six points from Ashtyn Klusmeyer and five from Mya Miller, who also converted three free throws. Lauren Friedrich drilled a three-pointer off the bench to help push the lead to nine heading into the second quarter.

Columbia continued to pull away in the second, outscoring Cottey 15-11 to take a 34-21 lead into halftime. Lexi Miller and Mya Miller combined for 10 points in the frame, with Lexi Rubel knocking down a three-pointer to extend the cushion. Brecklen Morrison kept Cottey within striking distance, going to the free throw line six times in the quarter.

The third quarter was all Cougars, as Columbia held Cottey to just four points while extending the lead to 44-25. Klusmeyer went on a personal 7-0 run with a layup, a three-pointer, and a jump shot, while Lexi Miller added a three to push the advantage to 21.

Columbia put the game away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Cottey 26-19 to close out the 70-44 final. Klusmeyer continued to pour it on with seven more points, while Macie Harman provided a strong spark off the bench with eight points, including a pair of free throws and two layups in the final minutes.

Lexi Miller recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds to go along with three assists, while Klusmeyer led all scorers with 22 points on 10-of-20 shooting.

Columbia returns to action in the semifinals of the AMC Women's Basketball Tournament on Saturday, facing the winner of (4) University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy (Mo.) and (5) Mission University (Mo.). Tip off is set for 12:00 p.m.
