SHAWNEE, KS — The Columbia College softball team split its day two doubleheader at the Top Gun Midwest College Classic on Saturday, defeating Oklahoma Wesleyan University 3-1 before falling to Benedictine College 2-0.
The Cougars are now 8-6 on the season and will play next at home on Wednesday, March 4th.
Game One: CC def. Oklahoma Wesleyan, 3-1
- Ella Schouten (W, 4-2): 7.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 SO
- Wriley Taylor went 2-for-4 with two RBI to pace the offense
- Liz Enlow singled to lead off the third inning and eventually scored on a Taylor RBI single to give Columbia its first lead
- A pair of Oklahoma Wesleyan errors in the third inning allowed a second Cougar run to score
- Abigail Zismer doubled to lead off the seventh and scored on a Taylor groundout to provide the final margin
Game Two: Benedictine def. CC, 2-0
- Micaiah Cordell: 6.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO
- Columbia was limited to just two hits on the afternoon, both off the bats of Abigail Zismer and Eleanor Schudel
- Benedictine starter Braelyn Selvage struck out 10 Cougars without issuing a walk in a complete-game shutout
- The Cougars were unable to capitalize on four walks drawn, stranding seven baserunners
